With the magnitude of foreign investments increasing, M&A continued to gain momentum in China. As foreign investors managing M&A in China, there is a unique set of challenges. Unlike international market where integrated system and practices of M&A have been established, Chinese M&A market has only developed for a few years. Study showed that majority of the attempts to make a successful deal never pass the due diligence, even less managed to create value for the acquiring entity.

Understanding the China specific characteristics in M&A process will lead to a higher chance of success meeting this challenge.

Facilitators:

Clara Yu

Clara is principal consultant in finance of Global Talent Development Center. Clara has 17 years of financial management experience with various industries and types of companies. Started as an accountant in a big SOE, Clara's career evolved into a series of financial management positions with J&J, Henkel, GE and Kodak.

In her finance leadership role, Clara has built a solid record on delivering competent financial services in the area of accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax and internal control. As a business partner, Clara also worked closely with BU leaders on strategic planning, performance improvement, and M&A projects.

In M&A projects, Clara has experienced difficulties & success with different partners under various businesses/industries/environment and local implementation environment. As a native Chinese, Clara's contribution is insightful & practical with her understanding on both China context and MNC's business context.

Married with a daughter, Clara holds Bachelor's degree in management engineering and MBA from China Europe International Business School.

Dana Chan

Dana is the managing director of Global Talent Development Center. Dana has 21 years of international management and consulting experience. She has worked in Hong Kong, U.S.A., Indonesia, Singapore, and China. Her experience in both IT and HR equipped her with understanding and insights of managing across cultures. 

In two consecutive years, Dana was named one of China’s top 50 CIOs by China National Informatization Evaluation Center (NiEC). She led three post M&A integration in various parts of China involving 9,000 employees. In the process, Dana developed her own practices on effective ways to integrate human resources, cultures, and business processes. Dana has shared her views on post M&A integration in China during many business executive China study tours from Europe and U.S.


Dana is currently an adjunct professor in Jiaotong University’s MBA programs. She also teaches EMBA programs in corporations. She is a certified trainer for Motorola University. Subjects covered by Dana include Change Management, Achieving Results Through People, Organizational Behavior, Career Management, and Strategic Management of Information Technology.

Dana received her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China; and MBA degree in International Business (IBEAR) from University of Southern California, USA.
