Using Assessment Tools for Career and Talent Management - Experience sharing of utilizing assessment tools for individuals and in organizations

Understanding the sheer number of assessment tools in the market can be a daunting and challenging task. Before the July event, GTDC gathered questions and challenges about Assessment tools from participants such as 360 degree questionnaire, behavioral interview, also tools such as SQ, MBTI, PDI, DDI, and Harrison Assessment etc. With questions and an expert panel, Global Mentors was able to share the insights and experiences of those who had used such tools.
The two distinguished panelists invited are Ms. Maria Wang, a professional coach in organizational development and whole person growth, ex-director of training and development for Kodak China; and Dr. Zhu Xiaoping, Managing Partner, China EAP Service Center, which provides employee assistance programs in China. Dana, Maria, and Dr. Zhu each spent a few minutes to sharing their experiences with various assessment tools. Dana demonstrated and elaborated on such tools such as Emergenetics, Harrison Assessment, Career Leader, and Caliper. She explained how different tools are used for different contexts. Maria shared her experiences with 360 assessments, the selection of different assessment tools, and the use of assessment tools for coaching, the feedbacks and coaching follow-ups; Dr. Zhu presented some research and practical data, as well as the methods and characteristics of different assessment tools.
Participants asked many questions focused on the assessment tools in relating to HR, from different prospective of the certified facilitator, the tool developer, and the users point views during the Q&A session. It was important to realize that while the tools are invaluable in assisting decision making, but not the main deciding factor.
