Preface
The exponential growth of China’s inward and outward foreign direct investment in the past decades has generated great demand for foreign executive managing in China and Chinese executives “go global”. Whether it is representing foreign companies in China, helping Chinese companies set up overseas offices, or working in multinational corporations inside China, executives today need to work effectively in multicultural contexts, interact with headquarters, customers, suppliers, colleagues, subordinates, and superiors who come from diverse national cultural backgrounds. According to Farrell and Grant (2005), China’s current internationally experienced talent pool numbers 5000 when it needs 75,000 in the next 10 to 15 years. Developing effective leaders in international contexts from local Chinese executives has become a pressing issue for foreign companies operating in China and Chinese companies going global. This newsletter will look at the developing global talent in China from several perspectives: trend of inward and outward foreign investment, exploration of global leadership, development paths for Chinese executives going global, executive view on global talent, and intercultural research.
The nature of this newsletter is to contribute in the area of developing talent in multicultural contexts. We hope it will benefit the following:
